(1.) Complainant's grandmother Smt. Basanti V. Deshpandey had purchased 100 units of Rs. 10 each under Dhan Varsha-5 scheme of LIC Mutual Fund. As the complainant's grandmother expired, the complainant became the sole holder of unit certificates. The complainant submitted the unit certificates along with the death certificate on 21.8.1998 in the office of LIC Mutual Fund, Kanpur. As the maturity amount was not received she reminded that office again and again.
(2.) When the complainant enquired from Post Master, Nawab Ganj, he informed that he has not received any registered letter sent by the Kanpur office of the LIC Mutual Fund. The Kanpur office asked the complainant to submit an Indemnity Bond on a stamp paper of Rs. 100 along with 2 sureties and a copy of the death certificate, etc., which was also complied by her. She was informed that the payment had already been made towards the maturity warrant on 13.9.1998 by Canara Bank, Arya Samaj Road, Karol Bagh, New Delhi. The complainant kept on sending several letters in the year 1998 and 1999 but she did not get any positive response. Accordingly, she made the following claims before the District Forum :
(3.) District Forum after hearing the parties passed an order directing the respondent No. 1-LIC Mutual Fund to pay Rs. 27,626.40 paise along with interest @ 12% p.a. to the complainant.
