(3.) Learned Counsel submitted that the petitioner needs to frequently travel abroad due to his work/job profile. The concerned authorities, however, due to pendency of numerous criminal cases against the petitioner, issued only a short term passport to him. The denial of issue of passport with extended validity period of ten years adversely affects his travel plans. Learned Counsel submitted that Passport Act, 1967 and the rules framed thereunder do not provide for arbitrary deduction in validity period of passport for individuals not convicted in any criminal proceedings. The issuance of one/two years passport lacks any statutory backing and thus, violates the provisions of the Passport Act.
