(1.) A letter has been received from Ashok Kumar, a convicted prisoner incarcerated in Central Jail, Jodhpur. The letter has been treated as a letter petition by this Court. Vide order dated 17.1.2012, this Court had appointed Mr. Sunil Ranwa, as amicus curiae on behalf of the petitioner.

Mr. Sunil Ranwa, submits that the petitioner was convicted for offence under Section 376 IPC, and was sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment, out of which, he has already served four years, eight months, and twenty-eight days. Hence, he is eligible for being released on the first parole of twenty days.
(3.) However, vide order dated 18.8.2011, his case has been rejected by the District Parole Committee. According to the learned counsel, the committee has accepted the adverse report sent by the S.P. Sirohi; the committee has denied the benefit of parole of the appellant.
