V/S
PUNJAB SCHOOL EDUCATION BOARD Respondents

JUDGEMENT

(1.) Challenge in this petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is to the order dated 21st Dec., 1998 passed by the Punjab School Education Board (hereinafter referred to as the Board), which reads as under:-

(2.) The facts falls within narrow compass. The petitioner, who was appearing as a private candidate in the examination of 10+2 to be held in March, 1998 and submitted his examination form accordingly. The petitioner was issued roll number on the basis of his application, being roll No. 347632. On the roll number slip the petitioner was allocated Centre 20-E. The petitioner took the entire examination at Arya College, Ludhiana. The petitioner, who claims to have done very well in his examination and was awaiting for his result when on 21st Dec., 1998, he came to know that his result has been cancelled, compelling the petitioner to file the present writ petition.

(3.) Upon notice, the respondent-board filed the reply and the basic contention raised is that Centre 20-E relates to Arya Senior Secondary School and not to Arya College, Ludhiana. The petitioner had filled in the wrong Centre himself and the Superintendent of the examination was negligent in letting the petitioner appear at the Arya College, Ludhiana. Resultantly, his result was cancelled.
