PUBLIC GRIEVANCES ASSOCIATION Vs. UNION OF INDIA

Decided On March 23, 2006
PUBLIC GRIEVANCES ASSOCIATION Appellant
V/S
UNION OF INDIA Respondents

JUDGEMENT

(1.) Fresh status report has been submitted by the Punjab Pollution Control Board with regard to the air pollution in the area concerned.

(2.) The same is taken on record and a copy thereof has been supplied to learned Counsel for the petitioner and other respondents. From the report, we find that insofar as Unit No.2 of the thermal plant is concerned, its emission levels are within the permissible limits. In so far as Units No.3 and 4 are concerned, their emission levels are marginally higher than the prescribed limits. Learned counsel for the thermal plant submits that the said units would require extensive renovations and modernization, for which requisite steps have already been initiated. It is stated that the said renovation/modernization is likely to be completed by the end of year 2008.

(3.) In view of the above, we feel that no further orders are called for in this writ petition at this juncture.
