JUDGEMENT

(1.) The contour of the facts and material, culminating in the commencement, relevant for the limited purpose of deciding the core controversy involved in the instant revision petition and emanating from the record are that, initially the petitioner complainant Jasvir Kaur wife of Ravinder Singh (for brevity 'the complainant'), has instituted a private complaint against her husband, his parents and other relatives, for the commission of offences punishable under Sections 406, 498-A and 506 IPC. The trial Court dismissed the complaint with regard to the remaining relatives and only summoned Ravinder Singh (husband), Darshan Singh and Paramjit Kaur (parents-in-law) to face the trial.

Taking into consideration the evidence on record, ultimately the trial Court convicted and sentenced Ravinder Singh and his mother Paramjit Kaur, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year each, fine of Rs. 500/- each and in default of payment of fine, they were ordered to further undergo rigorous imprisonment for one month each, for the commission of offences punishable under Sections 406 and 498-A IPC, vide impugned judgment of conviction and order of sentence dated 23.12.2011f.

(3.) Aggrieved thereby, Ravinder Singh (husband) and his mother Paramjit Kaur filed and the appellate Court partly accepted the appeal and acquitted Paramjit Kaur (mother-in-law). At the same time, the sentence of imprisonment of one year awarded to Ravinder Singh (husband) under Sections 406 IPC and 498-A IPC was reduced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for four months, vide impugned judgment dated 18.08.2012.
