(1.) A sample of Sarson oil was purchased by the Government Food Inspector from petitioner Bajrang Lal on January 12, 1982. On analysis, the sample was found to be adulterated. On being prosecuted for it under section 16(1)(a)(i) of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954, the accused pleaded 'not guilty' thereto and claimed to be tried. Vide its impugned judgment dated April 27, 1983, the learned trial court convicted him of the offence with which he stood charged and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of nine months and to pay Rs. 1,000/ - as fine. In default of payment of fine, the accused was ordered to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a further period of four months.

IN Criminal Appeal No. 36/3 of 1983 decided on April 4, 1986, the learned lower appellate Court maintained both the conviction and sentence awarded to the convicted accused -appellant before it and dismissed the appeal. Aggrieved from the judgments of the two Courts below, convicted accused Bajrang Lal has filed Criminal Revision No. 470 of 1986 in this Court.
