(1.) Concisely, the facts and material, relevant for disposal of the instant petition and emanating from the record are that, the marriage of complainant Smt. Mandeep Kaur respondent No.2 (for brevity the complainant) was solemnised with Mohinder Singh son of Gurcharan Singh, brother of petitioner Joginder Singh, on 11.1.2007 according to Hindu rites and ceremonies. Sufficient dowry articles were stated to have been given by her parents at the time of marriage, but the accused were not satisfied. They started taunting her and demanded more dowry articles. They gave beatings to her as well.
(2.) Levelling a variety of allegations and narrating the sequence of events in all, the prosecution claimed that the accused treated the complainant with cruelty in connection with and for demand of dowry.
(3.) Having completed all the codal formalities, the trial Court acquitted all the accused for the commission of offence punishable under Section 307 IPC. Accused Jangir Kaur (mother-in-law) was also acquitted under Section 498-A IPC. However, the main accused Mohinder Singh (husband) was convicted and sentenced, to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of three years and to pay a fine of Rs.2500/-, for the commission of offence punishable under Section 498-A IPC, by means of impugned judgment of conviction and order of sentence dated 8.10.2010.
