JUDGEMENT

(1.) THIS appeal assails the order dated 27.2.2008 of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Shajapur in C.C. No. 65/2007 by which for non -delivery of postal article compensation in the sum of Rs. 5,000 has been awarded in addition to costs of Rs. 1,000.

(2.) A parcel was sent by registered post from Shajapur to Bangalore. The parcel was booked on 26.3.2007 and first delivery was attempted on 2.4.2007 but without success, as the addressee was not available. Second time also the postman tried on 10.4.2007 to deliver the parcel but the addressee could not be traced out. Sender's name was not mentioned on the parcel to enable the Department to return it to him. It is alleged by the appellant Postal Authorities that since sender's name was not there, it became known only when the complaint was made by the sender and the parcel was called and handed over to him.
