(1.) The writ petitioner is directed against disallowing the petitioner to enroll as a casual student of Presidency University, Kolkata and appear at the backlog examination for the odd semester to be held on and from January 2, 2020.
(2.) It is the contention of the petitioner that the petitioner during the pursuit of her studies at the post graduate level in the Presidency University could not clear three papers in different semesters. Thereafter, the petitioner had taken up an internship job and was working from home in Kolkata. The Rules of the University provides that students who have not been able to clear certain papers in their semesters during the post graduate course should enrol themselves as casual students in order to be able to sit for the backlog papers and qualify the post graduate examination.
(3.) It is contended on behalf of the petitioner that as she was not a regular student of the University after the post graduate course was over, she was unaware of the notice which was published on August 27, 2019 giving an opportunity to unsuccessful candidates who had failed to clear all papers in the respective semesters in the post graduate course to enrol themselves as casual students and take the examination in which they were unsuccessful in the ensuing semesters i.e. a paper in the odd semester would be taken in the next odd semester examination to be held and the paper in the even semester was to be taken in the even semester examination to be held later on.
