SANTANU MUKHERJEE Vs. UNIVERSITY OF CALCUTTA

Decided On February 25, 2005
SANTANU MUKHERJEE Appellant
V/S
UNIVERSITY OF CALCUTTA Respondents

JUDGEMENT

(1.) The question paper of Accountancy Honours (New Syllabus), 2003 and the answer script were produced.

(2.) Heard learned Advocates for the parties. It is admitted that in the answer paper, consolidated marks have been awarded for an answer though the figures in the margin of the question paper indicate part marks for part questions. In my view, part mark for part question implies award of break up marks by the examiner. For the sake of clarity and transparency, the examiner should have shown the break up of marks for each part. In the instant case part marking has not been shown.

(3.) Therefore, I direct the University authorities to send the answer script to each of the examiners for awarding part marks for part questions instead of consolidated marks which have been awarded. This exercise should be completed by the University authorities and the examiners within a period of eight weeks from date. Each of the examiners shall furnish a separate report in sealed cover before this Court and in the report they shall indicate the part marks awarded against each part answer.
