NILU SANTRA Vs. STATE OF WEST BENGAL

JUDGEMENT

(1.) Appellant has been convicted for commission of offence punishable under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced to suffer imprisonment for 10 years and to pay fine of Rs.5,000/- in default, to suffer rigorous imprisonment for six months more.

(2.) Nobody appears for the appellant. Mr. Sabir Ahmed is requested to assist the Court as amicus curiae.

(3.) Heard the amicus curiae and the learned lawyer for the State.
