JUDGEMENT

(1.) THE philosophy of University education has emerged for the concerned intellectual world, with "the Idea of a University" - a book by Cardinal Newman which consists of 9 Discourses delivered more than a century ago in 1852. The book is known to the intellectual world as the magnum opus on the subject and is a high water mark of the English prose, and it considers the idea of a University from various facets. In Discourse No. 5, what is available would be the philosophy of the University education and it is as follows :-

(2.) AT other place, Cardinal Newman says in furtherance of the said philosophy, as follows :

THE University education as is understood it from times immemorial treats knowledge as its own end in relation to learning, in relation to professional skills, in relation to the religion and also in relation to character and truth. The idea of a University as is available from above, presents a noble picture.
