JUDGEMENT

(1.) Heard the learned Counsel for the parties.

(2.) The State has applied for an extension of time to hold elections to 185 Panchayats in the State of Goa, whose term expired on 18/6/2022. The extension is applied even in respect of one of the Panchayats whose term expires on 7/7/2022.

(3.) By our Judgment and Order dtd. 28/6/2022, we had rejected the State's contentions about the difficulties in holding the elections because of the monsoons and directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to ensure that the elections are completed within 45 days. We had also directed the State to issue the necessary notifications under Rule 10 of the Election Procedure Rules, 1996, appointing the date for holding elections within three days.
