MOSTREV ANTONY PAPPUSAMY, ARCHBISHOP AND PRESIDENT Vs. ELECTION COMMISSIONER, ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA

JUDGEMENT

(1.) Most Rev. Dr. Antony Pappusamy has filed W.P.No.8090 of 2019 for a writ of mandamus, directing the respondents to reschedule the election date, which is scheduled on 18.04.2019 in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, to any day other than Maundy Thursday, falling within the "Holy Triduum", subject to the convenience of the election commission and the general public or in the alternative to shift the election booths located in the schools within the church premises, to any other places of convenience to the election commission and the general public.

(2.) Mr.S.Inigo Irudayaraj has W.P.No.8126 of 2019 for a writ of mandamus, directing the Respondent, The Tamilnadu State Election Commission, to change in the election date in the state of Tamil Nadu and Puduchery from 18/04/2019 to any other date.

(3.) As both the writ petitions are for a similar prayer, they are taken up together and disposed of, by a common order.
