JUDGEMENT

(1.) This Writ Petition has been filed challenging the order passed by the 2nd respondent cancelling the Jallikattu event which is proposed to be held on 27.01.2019.

(2.) The petitioner is the President of the "Jallikattu Vizha Kuzhu of Keelakolathur Village, Ariyalur District. It is the case of the petitioner that "Thaipoosa Thiruvizha Jallikattu" is being annually held in the Village for a long period of time, every year. The petitioner claims that this festival has been conducted without any disturbance or violence till date.

(3.) The petitioner and the other villagers gave a representation to the 2nd respondent on 31.12.2018, seeking permission to conduct "Thaipoosa Thiruvizha Jallikattu". The Government of Tamil Nadu by a notification dated 10.01.2019, published in the Gazette, notifying the various places where the Jallikattu can be conducted in Tamil Nadu. One such place notified is at Keelakolathur Village, Ariyalur Taluk, and the event was permitted to be conducted on 21.01.2019.
