JUDGEMENT

(1.) The appellants are the accused 1 and 2 in S.C.No.251 of 2011 on the file of the learned Sessions Judge, Mahalir Neethimandram, Chennai. They stood charged for offences under Sections 498-A and 304-B of IPC. By judgment dated 17.01.2013, the trial court convicted the accused under both charges and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and to pay a fine of Rs.5,000/- each, in default, to undergo simple imprisonment for 3 months for the offence under Section 498-A of IPC and to undergo imprisonment for life and to pay a fine of Rs.10,000/- each, in default, to undergo simple imprisonment for 6 months for the offence under Section 304-B of IPC. Challenging the said conviction and sentence, the appellants/accused are before this Court with this appeal.

(3.) Based on the above materials, the Trial Court framed charges as detailed in the first paragraph of the Judgment. The accused denied the same. In order to prove the case, on the side of the prosecution, as many as 16 witnesses were examined and 13 documents were also marked. No material object was marked.
