JUDGEMENT

(1.) It is indeed a proud moment to cherish that the 44th Chess Olympiad organised by the Federation Internationale des Echecs [FIDE] is scheduled to be held in Chennai, India between 28/7/2022 and 10/8/2022. The event comprises open and women's tournaments as well as several events designed to promote the game of chess.

(2.) The Chess Olympiad was initially supposed to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, along with the Chess World Cup 2019, but was moved to Moscow and scheduled to be held between 5/8/2020 and 17th of August, 2020. Due to the pandemic, COVID-19, the tournament was postponed and finally the event was relocated to Chennai in India, following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

(3.) Our country was given the challenging task to organise the tournament involving more than 2000 participants from 186 countries within a short span of time. The arrangements have been made to host the Chess Olympiad with the inaugural function in Chennai and the tournament at Mamallapuram.
