(1.) The prayers in this writ petition are as follows:
(2.) Heard learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Government Pleader.
(3.) It is submitted by the learned counsel for the petitioner that the father's name, caste and religion of the petitioner had been wrongly recorded in the S.S.L.C. book. It is stated that the petitioner had moved the Government and by Ext.P7 order, the Government had directed correction of the name of the petitioner. It is submitted by the learned counsel for the petitioner that her father's name and religion is also wrongly recorded and she had made Ext.P10 application for correction of the details in the S.S.L.C. book. It is stated that the request made by the petitioner had been rejected by Ext.P11. The reasons stated in Ext.P11 are that the details regarding the records which was entered in the Admission Register cannot be changed and that by G.O. (M.S) 80/84 G.A.D. Dated: 14.3.1984, the details regarding name, religion, caste etc. can be changed only by Gazette notification and that Gazette is to be produced along with the S.S.L.C. book. The petitioner contends that this course of action is acceptable since the authorities in the State of Karnataka, where the petitioner is presently employed, do accept the Gazette notification alone as a correction of the details entered in the S.S.L.C. book. It is stated that the correction carried out in the S.S.L.C. book is essential. The learned counsel contends that Rule 3 of Chapter VI of the K.E.R. specifically permits the alteration of the details entered in the S.S.L.C. book. It is stated that the petitioner has complied with all the procedural formalities including Gazette notification and that, in view of Rule 3, respondents are duty bound to effect corrections in the petitioner's S.S.L.C. book.
