JUDGEMENT

(1.) This writ petition is filed with the following prayer:-

(2.) Heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned standing counsel appearing for the respondent.

(3.) The learned counsel for the petitioner contends that the petitioner has M.A.Degree in English awarded by the Annamalai University by Distance Education. The petitioner contends that she had undergone the first year course under the Kerala University and the 2nd year in the Annamalai University. The petitioner's M.A. Degree is therefore reckoned as a Lateral Entry. The petitioner's application for equivalency certificate at Exhibit P10 has been rejected by Exhibit P12 order dated 27.1.2017. The reasons stated in Exhibit P12 for rejection is that the opinion of the Chairperson of the Board of Studies and the Dean of the Faculty had given opinion that since the eligibility conditions, number of papers, viva, dissertation and contents of the syllabus were completely different from the M.G.University's P.G.English Syllabus. The equivalency cannot be granted. The Academic Council considered the opinion of the Dean, Faculty of Language and Literature and the Chairperson of the Board of Studies and decided that M.A.English, Lateral Entry, Distance Education of the Annamalai University need be considered as equivalent to the M.A.English Degree awarded by the M.G.University.
