JUDGEMENT

(1.) IN both these writ petitions, the petitioners are seeking for a direction to the Municipality to register the petitioners' vehicles bearing registrations Nos.KL-41-8880 and KL-45-F-1105 respectively and issue passes/permits under Act 18 of 2001 in accordance with law for transportation of sand.

(2.) THE petitioners point out that the vehicles are being plied at Ponnani. They approached the Municipality for pass to transport Port sand outside Malappuram District and it was informed by the Municipality that only the vehicle registered with the Ponnani Municipality will be issued passes for transporting sand. Accordingly, applications have been filed by the respective petitioners produced as Ext.P2.

(3.) LEARNED Standing Counsel for the Municipality submitted that the registration is required in the case of transportation of river sand.
