The petitioners herein claim that they have been engaged as contract labourers by the respondents 1 to 3 to render service in various telephone exchanges in the Telecom Business Area at Malappuram. The 4 th respondent is the contractor. Their grievance is that the wages as well as benefits due to them from the respondents 1 to 4 from the month of March, 2019 has not been disbursed. It is in the aforesaid backdrop that the petitioners have approached this Court with this writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India to direct the respondents 1 to 4 to pay the arrears of wages and other benefits due to them.
(2.) Heard Sri.V.V.Suresh, the learned counsel appearing for the petitioners and Sri.Mathews K.Philip, the learned standing counsel appearing for the respondents 1 to 3.
(3.) The learned counsel appearing for the petitioners submits that there is no justification on the part of the respondents 1 to 4 in failing to disburse their wages for the work done by them. He contends that the petitioners are reeling in grave financial hardship and prays for issuance of necessary directions to keep their life afloat.
