(1.) Petitioner complains that in the passport that was issued by the 1st respondent, there is a mistake in his name and date of birth. He says that in order to get the said mistake corrected, he wanted to submit an application and that the application is not accepted by the respondents on the ground that the application is not supported by a court order. Relying on the judgment of this Court in Aboo Chettiyamthodi v. Regional Passport Officer, Malappuram (2008(1) KLT 992), counsel contends that the demand for a court order as a condition for entertaining the application is illegal.
(2.) I heard the standing counsel appearing for the respondent also.
(3.) If as contended by the petitioner, there is mistake in any of the entires in the passport issued to him, he is justified in seeking its correction, provided he is able to satisfy the respondent that there was a bonafide mistake and that the same is liable to be corrected.
