(1.) THE petitioner in this case has sought for certain information which involves huge expenditure, as has been set out in order dated 18th July 2008. The petitioner wanted that this information should be given free of cost to her.
(2.) I consider that this contention of the petitioner is not justified. Under the Right to Information (Regulation of Fee and Cost) Rules, 2005, provision is there for charging of costs wherever the cost is involved for supply of information. Rule 4 reads as under:-

FROM the reading of the above Rule, it is abundantly clear that the petitioner can be given the requisite information only if she deposits the expenditure to be spent by the Department in getting this information. The department is not charging its own fee but is asking the petitioner to meet the expenditure which the Department will have to pay in getting the information from C-DAC.
