JUDGEMENT

(1.) WE have heard the learned counsel appearing for the parties including the petitioner, who appears in person and also Mr.A.S. Chandhiok, Convenor of the Committee constituted by the Court and Mr.Kirti Uppal, member of the Committee. Various orders have been passed by this Court for improving quality and standard of the meals served in various trains. Pursuant to our orders, the Committee has visited various base kitchens, canteens and pantry cars and has submitted reports from time to time suggesting ways and means to improve quality of the food and hygiene of the areas where the food is prepared and served. Later on two experts were also included in the Committee, so as to give advice and to assist the Committee in discharging their duties. Now an additional affidavit has been filed by the IRCTC. It is stated in the said affidavit that they have taken necessary and required steps to the satisfaction of the Committee and quality of food has improved and proper hygiene is being maintained. In the said affidavit, IRCTC has also mentioned various steps they have been taking for constant improvement in all aspects with the assistance of the Committee members and experts. WE are satisfied with the manner in which steps have been taken to improve quality of the catering services. The Committee members also agree. In this view of the matter, we find no reason to proceed with the matter any further. WE however hope and expect that IRCTC shall constantly improve quality of the food supplied in trains and also maintain proper hygiene in the kitchens and method of cooking etc. The Committee constituted by us can also monitor/inspect quality of the food and hygiene of the kitchens, canteens and pantry cars etc. The Committee shall bring short comings, if any, to the notice of the IRCTC, who shall rectify the same. With the above observations, we dispose of the writ petition. The committee shall have the liberty to get this petition revived, if any further order is required.
