(1.) The High courts of Gauhati, Calcutta and Madras have not so far filed the affidavits. Apart from six States/ Union Territories which have filed their response / affidavit other States and Union Territories have not filed their affidavits till date.
(2.) Four weeks' further time is granted to the States / Union Territories and the three high courts mentioned above to file their affidavits as per the earlier directions of the court.
(3.) Mr. Ranjit Kumar learned Amicus undertakes to file, in a tabular form a chart giving details with regard to the status of the under-trial prisoners etc. in various jails in different States. The tabular chart shallindicate the number of courts exercising criminal jurisdiction in each State both at the magisterial level and at the Sessions level. With a view to enable Mr. Ranjit Kumar to prepare the tabular chart the Registry shall furnish to him a complete paper book containing affidavits received from various high courts/ States / Union Territories.
