JUDGEMENT

(1.) Mr Rakesh K. Khanna, learned Senior Counsel appearing for the Directorate of Education submits that as on 29-11-2010, there are 199 vacancies of Principals in various schools of Delhi out of which 118 posts are in the category of departmental promotion and 81 posts are for direct recruitment. He submits that the Departmental Promotion Committee (for short "DPC") has been fixed for 21-12-2010 to fill up 80 vacancies of Principals for the year 2009-2010.

Mr Khanna further submits that for filling up 58 vacancies in the category of direct recruits, an advertisement has been issued by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on 13-2-2010 and the process is on and after the process is over, the date for interview shall be fixed. He further submits that requisition for 23 vacancies, along with 39 anticipated vacancies for the year 2010-2011, have been sent to UPSC and all efforts are being made to fill up these vacancies. Mr Khanna also submits that the process of filling up the remaining 38 vacancies in the category of departmental promotion has also been initiated and those vacancies are also likely to be filled up shortly.

Mr Khanna submits that in the category of Vice-Principal, as on 29-11 -2010, there are 197 vacancies of Vice-Principal for the year 2010-2011 along with 42 anticipated vacancies for 2010-2011 and efforts are being made to fill up these vacancies and a meeting of DPC has been fixed on 28-12-2010 for promotion from PGT to Vice-Principal.
